We read this week about government and some its repercussion for women.  Still after all I have read and saw,  I am so proud to be a woman.  I really wouldn’t have it any other way.  In some countries we are treated with such apathy and at times disdain but sometimes, in some of those same countries, we are held as the most pure and revered of the species.  I only know that women are equal in all ways but just like anything else in some things we are better, and granted in some things men are better.  There is nothing wrong with that either way.

 If I see another picture of Britney Spears headlining the news,  I think I am going to throw up!  Who cares??!!  She is running around pantiless in desperate need of a hair and clothing stylist and that’s news??!!!  I don’t have any of her Cd’s, nor have I ever seen a concert.  I feel like I am being forced to participate in some sort of subliminal research.  I was watching  CNN and there it was,  ” Britney gets visitation”.  I guess the only safe networks are Discovery and the History channel.  I guess I was wrong when I thought the whole talentless Paris Hilton thing was too much!!

I cannot imagine what it would be like to have to pack up my entire life and move out of my homeland. AND to have to do this with just one suitcase.  I can feel the frustration that has turned to anger in her writing.  She feels as if she is not being heard and the people in her country Iraq are shouting at the top of their lungs.  I dont thinks she views us here in the West as unified with our families as she is.  She sees us as disjointed and selfish.  We only are out to serve our own needs and we have no regard for their way of life

“Is the American soldier that died today in Anbar more important than a cousin I have who was shot last month on the night of his engagement to a woman he’s wanted to marry for the last six years? I don’t think so”  She wants her country back.  She wants her home back NOW!

I have long been opposed to this war and I understand how she feels.   Politicians make the rules of engagement and others have to die for their ignorance.  She no longer sees the American occupation as that she sees it as a takeover.  I think we in the West view it as a helping hand, but that hand has now been in the pot too long.

I have been reading this weeks literature and have become more aware than I think I have ever been about how the media plays tricks on women’s psyche to sell a product.  It is sad that so many fall victim to this.  I had fell victim to it when I was younger, but even though I am not immune to it now, I will say I am more aware.  I am what is known in popular magazines as a natural woman.  This means I don’t wear makeup, I prefer to go natural.  At most I will wear lip-gloss and some mascara, but that is about all.  I was walking thru Walmart and I couldn’t believe how many foundation and cover-ups I saw to give me a “natural” look.  It made me laugh a little.  The main reason I don’t wear makeup is I don’t know how to put it on and I refuse to look like a clown with too much on.  But if I did decide to wear it why would I put it on just to look “natural”?  Gimme a break.

I started this course immediately after taking a course in US History and US Government.  I preface that because it is interesting how many people refer to the Constitution for our entire country’s foundation as a government.  What people dont refer to is that the document was written entirely for white males who owned property and that is all.  If you were a women you were excluded.  If you didn’t own a home you were excluded.  And so on.  So automatically the document was flawed if you were not in any of those categories.  Of course it was amended to provide for such much much later, but it was not this magnificent document that everyone always adored.  Most white people in this country fail to understand this from a minority point of view still.  Any minority.

When people speak of the Bible it is the same thing.  When the laws for this country were made they related the laws to that same focus group.  It did not encompass those who choose not believe in God, nor those who who believe in a different God not included in the King James version. 

I say that all of that to say this.  When speaking of laws for this country and equality,  there will never be true equality until the law-making bodies represent the country to whom it serves.  Be it the US Congress or the US Supreme Court.  There are not enough women, Blacks, Asians,Jews, homosexuals, etc on either.  The only thing we can do is vote and hope that between the lobbyists, the career politicians/crooks, and courts dont hijack another election!  And I am a moderate!  :0)  I love this country just as much as those who believe I shouldnt say some of the things I just said.  I was born here and my ancestors helped build it to what it is now, so I am not going anywhere.

 There are so many thing on so many levels that people misinterpret the Bible for that it is frightening.  I live my life every day as a beautiful bodacious straight Black woman.  I do this even when it is unpopular to do so.  I speak my mind openly, intelligently, and honestly.   In saying that I am not afraid to say when I am wrong either.  I call it as I see it.  You can still be a Christian and be a bigot.  Refer to the history of the Klu Klux Klan if need be.  People interpret the Bible different ways - I choose to use it to include all.  I’ll let God sort them out, because that is what Jesus tells me to do.  Remember Jesus, he is the one God sent for everyone after all the fire and brimstone.  ;-}

After reading this week’s essay, I realized how far women have progressed since the Women’s Liberation movement.  I decided that it was by the grace of God that I hadn’t been born yet because I have some humorous and sometimes off-center view of how to rectify sexist oppression. 

Here are just a few:

1.  Ladies, if you a have on a blouse that has a v-neck down to your navel,  then please STOP wonder why men are constantly bumping into things around you and flinging drool on you in the process. 

2.  Stop calling and referring to oursleves as the weaker sex.

3.  The glass ceiling would be shattered quicker if we all got together and used our 3 inch heels as weapons and bras as slingshots every time we heard, “he was the best man for the job”.

4.  Realize that while all men are created equal, it takes a woman to actually give birth to them.

I am so tired.

Tired of thinking of starting a journal that never seems to get to where it needs to be.

I started it off valiantly. I went out and bought from Target.  It is so cute and has lots of pages. I also bought the perfect pen with brown ink that actually will look good while reading it.  No one will ever know this though.  Because I have yet to write in it.  I have the best of intentions but a true lack of conviction.  I truly believed that I would make a point to write in it every day.  My journal had the perfect purpose.  I was going to write about everything that I would ever want to tell my daughter,  including about me.  Just in case, I never got around to actually telling her, or if she never found out on her own.  I would tell her what to watch out for from men, women, friends, enemies and the world.  I would tell her about the mistakes I made and the ones I didn’t make.  Why I think she is beautiful, and why she should think she is beautiful.  All the little things that you know you should tell your little girl but never get around to doing it because something always comes up.

What really bothers me is that every time I pick it up to start, I cant think of what I want to say.  I think that she will be bored with it.  She will think it is wack or worse, wont even take the time to read it.  It feels good to get this off my chest.

 I will promise to do it tomorrow.  Even if it is only a few words.  They may mean the world to her.
